Fiber Coupled Tunable Diode Laser Systems

The FDLM Laser Systems contain a high power single mode solid state semiconductor diode laser, with all necessary subsystems for proper, safe and long life operation. The 40 mW lasers use a distributed Bragg Reflector and Multiple Quantum Well structure to achieve highly stable single longitudinal mode operation. The 10 mW lasers are External Cavity Stabilized for even higher stability and narrower linewidth. The laser output is coupled through industry standard single mode polarization maintaining Panda type 10.5/125 µm fiber optic cable to an NTT-FC output connector. The standard configuration is for APC polish and has the slow axis aligned with the type R (narrow) key. Other configurations are available by customer request. The laser is optically isolated from the the output fibre so that back-reflections will not affect the laser operation or its frequency stability./p A solid state thermo-electric (Peltier Effect) cooler and thermistor are built into the diode laser chip and are used to control the operating temperature and therefore the output wavelength of the laser light. Front panel multi-turn dials control the output power and allow fine tuning of the operating wavelength of the laser. Power and wavelength may also be controlled by electronic signals at an optional multi-pin rear panel connector. Laser output power and wavelength are controlled by an ultra stable feedback controlled systems. These systems are powered by ultra- low-noise power supply which operates from an internal sealed no-maintenance gel-cell battery. This battery is charged from external AC Power whenever the unit is plugged in but in "Recharge" mode. When the laser is actually operating, the laser system is disconnected from the charger so there is no possibility of instability or noise in the output of the laser due to noise on the AC line. Options Visible Pilot Source: a small, 5 mW visible red laser is fibre-coupled and spliced into the same fibre carrying the main laser light via a dual wavelength coupler. This provides a visible beam exactly co-axial with the main invisible laser for purposes of alignment. Optical Circulator: this passive optical device may also be spliced into the main laser fibre and serves to separate any light which may be reflected back into the laser delivery fibre. This reflected or returned light is diverted by the circulator so that it does not return to the laser but is available at another fibre connector on the front panel. Packaging: for customer applications the system can be packaged to suit specific needs. Contact us for details. External control: in lieu of the front panel manual controls the system can be operated (and powered) by analog signals through a multi-conductor ribbon cable.
